Human Services Association
Human Services Association (HSA) is a community-based agency providing a wide range of social services to residents of southeast Los Angeles County. The agency was founded in 1940 as an outreach service of the Presbyterian Church, when floods in the southeast area highlighted the pre-existing problems of poverty in Bell Gardens and surrounding communities. While HSA remains affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, all services are administered on a non-sectarian basis.
HSA's purpose is the enhancement, growth, and welfare of all clients by helping residents recognize and resolve individual, family, and community problems that inhibit their personal growth. As the motto says, "caring becomes doing at HSA".
