Childlike Faith: Confidence, Assurance, and Hope
Four months ago, we welcomed our second daughter to the family. A perfect baby girl woven together in her mother’s womb (Psalm 139); a testament to God’s mysterious, miraculous workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).
Child of God, do you know that your life is a miracle? You are created with intention and purpose - uniquely designed and crafted; a masterpiece.
The past four months have been a constant cycle of feeding, sleeping, consoling, and bonding. From my daughter's point of view, it's been a continuous cycle of learning to feed, to sleep, to be consoled, and to bond with these humans now outside the warmth of her mother’s body. What faith it must take to call out to someone to meet her every need!
Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – Hebrews 11:1
It’s quite scary being a baby. You feel pangs of hunger every three to four hours and hope that your cries will attract someone’s attention. There is no alternative.
You cry inconsolably because you don’t have the skills to comfort yourself. You need someone’s assurance.
You see the same people day after day and soon recognize that they are your parents. When you don’t see them, however, you think they’ve disappeared from existence. You are not confident that someone else is there.
Dear reader, are there areas of your life where you feel helpless or hungry for hope? Are you going through trials that feel paralyzing and inconsolable; do you need the assurance that you will be alright? Are there moments when you have lost confidence in those around you and feel completely alone? Child of God, have faith and know that He sees your every need and is here to provide. He does not tire. His grace abounds.
May your faith be a dayspring of hope that He will deliver, assurance that He understands your needs and situation, and confidence that His plan for you is good. And as you pray to your Father in Heaven, remember that “it is not the strength of your faith that saves you, but the strength of Him upon whom you rely” (Charles Spurgeon).
Hallelujah and amen.
