Program Learning Outcomes

GSEP is committed to a learner-centered approach in the programs we offer. Each program has a set of objectives that a student graduating from the program is expected to achieve. The knowledge and skills taught in the program might be introduced in some courses. In other courses, students are asked to apply knowledge by practicing skills and demonstrating their abilities. Within the program, the values and dispositional attributes important for individuals entering the profession are emphasized.

Graduates of the MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program will be expected to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Analyze and apply theories and research related to language structure and language acquisition

  2. Design supportive language learning environments using the intersections of language and culture, related theories, and principles

  3. Plan and implement research-based language instruction that integrates language skills, technology, and relevant teaching strategies

  4. Apply a variety of language proficiency instruments and techniques

  5. Understand the history of and current trends in language pedagogy and research, and collaborate to meet the needs of language learners
