Our Students are the Lord's Children

Pepperdine, as an institution, has always stood out to me as the embodiment of patience. When I began my time at GSEP, Dean Emeritus Helen Williams made a statement that has stuck with me. She said all people at GSEP should be treated with dignity, grace, and respect. Nothing embodies this more than the work we do with our students. As the bible says in Colossians 3:12, treat others with compassion, kindness, humility, and patience. This idea is central to furthering our Christian mission.

In our daily lives, living out patience can be challenging. Frustrating situations arise constantly. Yet this is exactly why the Lord has placed us at GSEP. Our students are God’s children, and we have been brought together to care for them with patience, love, and purpose.

John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The Lord’s sacrifice shows the depth of His love and the forgiveness He offers. His patience with us is unwavering, and in times of need, I often reflect on this verse.

In our work with students, we are continually called to embody the Lord’s vision. Our students are His children, and we have been entrusted with their care. Because of this, we should be patient, gracious, and treat others with dignity. The work we do at GSEP is a reflection of the Lord’s grace and love. As He loves us daily, we are called to show that same love to our students.
