A Prayer for Possibility, Purpose, and the Opportunities That Lie Ahead

As spring approaches, many Pepperdine students look forward to Spring Break and upcoming travel plans. For those graduating this year, this season also marks the beginning of the next chapter in their academic, professional, and personal journeys.

In this 2026 Guidepost Prayer, I would like to center our hearts on the theme of possibility.

In the Bible (New International Version), we are reminded in Matthew 19:26, “With God, all things are possible.” This verse follows a moment when Jesus’ disciples asked, “Who then can be saved?” referring to the difficulty of those of great wealth entering the kingdom of heaven. Jesus responded by reminding them that while things may seem impossible for humans, with God, all things are indeed possible.

As this year’s Pepperdine graduates reach this significant milestone, we move forward with the understanding that God has guided us every step of the way. Through His grace, wisdom, divine power, and unconditional love, we have been given the opportunity to learn, grow, and become who we are today.

We reflect on the hurdles we had to overcome: the late nights spent studying, the papers completed under pressure, and the moments we leaned on each other for encouragement, reminding one another that we would make it through. And we did. All of this has been possible through God’s plan and through Christ, our Lord and Savior.

One of the greatest gifts God has given us is the gift of possibility. It is possible for us to persevere through a rigorous graduate program. It is possible to juggle work, school, faith, family, and self-care. It is possible to trust that God holds us, our goals, and our futures in His hands. When we place our trust in Him, God responds with purpose. To the options, choices, and opportunities placed before us, God says either “Yes,” or “No…I have something better for you.’”

Trust in God. Know that His plan opens the doors to the many possibilities that lie ahead. In Jesus’ name, let us be glad, let us rejoice, and let us be grateful, for all that is still to come.

Heavenly Father, we love You and thank You for these beautiful and wondrous possibilities.

In Your name, we pray.  Amen.
