Turner's appointment is effective immediately and will continue through December 31, 2025.
In this role, Turner will serve as 1 of 4 action editors to help shape scholarship in the interdisciplinary field of men and masculinities. Psychology of Men and Masculinities is recognized for advancing understanding of how boys' and men’s lives are influenced by gender, sex, and the cultural meanings associated with masculinity. Turner’s research expertise in mental health within racial and ethnic communities, access to behavioral health services, and cultural competency positions him uniquely to contribute to the journal’s mission. He has published extensively on mental health disparities, therapy use among parents, and race-based stress, which align with the journal’s focus on critical issues such as masculine norms, mental and physical health, and intersectionality.
Over the last 10 years, he has served on the editorial boards for 6 peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Black Psychology and the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Turner’s career includes numerous accolades, including the Judy E. Hall Early Career Psychologist Award from the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, and the Emerging Professionals – Contributions to Service Award by the Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity, and Race (APA Division 45). His national recognition as a media psychologist and expertise in multicultural psychology further highlight the depth of his contributions to both academia and public discourse.
Turner’s appointment as an Associate Editor at Psychology of Men and Masculinities underscores GSEP’s commitment to fostering leadership and advancing scholarly contributions within the psychology community.
