PRYDE - Employment /Training Opportunities

PRYDE offers employment and training opportunities for master's and doctoral level students and interns in psychology, and marriage and family therapy. Training and services are provided at various Orange County locations, including Orange County Sheriff's department locations, city police service facilities, and public schools. There are two possible opportunities: 1) unpaid practicum students or post graduate MFT/LPCC/Social Work/Psychology interns/associates and 2) paid Graduate Assistants.

Aliento Students - PRYDE offers Spanish language supervision

These are volunteer training positions for current or upcoming graduate, masters, and doctoral practicum students and post graduate interns/associates. Students in these positions receive training and supervision by our program director and clinical supervisors and provide a variety of psychological and educational services to children, adolescents, and their parents. Clinical responsibilities include performing intake assessments; individual group, family and parent counseling; drug, alcohol and tobacco education, intervention, evaluation, and referral services. Administrative responsibilities include case management (maintaining all necessary paperwork and record keeping in support of sanctions imposed by the program) and various other support activities. 

The conditions for placement in our program are as follows:

  1. Academic Requirements:
    Students (Masters in Clinical Psychology or related) - either enrolled in or will be enrolled in a practicum course within one term
    Interns/Associates (Post Doctoral Psychology, MFT, LPCC or SW)  - graduated with a Masters or Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field 
  2. Work commitment: 15 hours/week, 6 month minimum. 
  3. Hours: Work must be conducted Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 6:30pm. Hours vary by location and Orange County and Pepperdine holidays are excluded. Must be able to attend weekly staff meetings, training sessions, and supervisions.
  4. Supervision: 2 or 4 hours of group supervision weekly; possibly more depending on number of client contact hours. An hour of Individual Supervision will be provided each quarter or as needed.  
  5. Participation in the 2 hour weekly staff meeting and training session (Lake Forest location) on Tuesday morning is mandatory.
  6. Background check is no longer required. Informal security clearance for this position typically takes 1-2 weeks.

 

Graduate Assistant (GA) Employment Opportunities

One position available beginning Summer 2024 ( as of 3/25/2024). Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.  

Paid Graduate Assistant (GA) positions support the PRYDE program with administrative responsibilities and receive clinical training in advance of practicum. Successful GA staff will have the advantage of having received extensive training and can acquire an initial caseload in anticipation of practicum. Administrative responsibilities include answering the telephone during business hours, processing referrals, case management (maintaining all necessary paperwork and record keeping in support of sanctions imposed by the program) and administrative support to staff. 

This position can continue through practicum for 19.75 hours per week in addition to unpaid practicum hours (minimum 15 hours/week commitment). 

1. Academic Requirements: Pepperdine GSEP Psychology student that is NOT enrolled in practicum, and has NOT previously completed a practicum course. So that these positions can be held for the longest time possible we encourage students to apply well before pre-practicum class.

2. Work commitment: 19.75 hours/week, minimum 1 full school term. 

3. Hours: Hours are flexible but must be conducted Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 6:30pm. Saturday hours may be available upon approval. Pepperdine holidays are excluded. Must be able to attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions.

4. Participation in the 2 hour weekly staff meeting/training session (Lake Forest location) on Tuesday is mandatory.

5. An Orange County Sheriff's Department security clearance is required (requires 1-2 weeks).

 

Training

The PRYDE program provides its employees and volunteers with comprehensive training and supervision for pre- and post-graduate master's level students, as well as first and second year doctoral students. Clinical supervision is conducted by Kenneth Woog, PsyD., Olga Cervantes, Psy.D.  and Lucinda Wilson, MA LMFT.  Dr. Woog is the Program Director and Clinical Psychologist. Olga Cervantes is an MFT, Clinical Psychologist and provides Spanish language supervision for Aliento students.  All supervisors have decades of experience working with at-risk youth and their families. PRYDE staff also receives training in juvenile law, drug and alcohol education, and child abuse assessment.
