MALT Alumnus Discusses Fostering the Next Generation of Tech Professionals in South L.A.

GSEP alumnus Oscar Menjivar (MALT ’13) was recently featured on SFBay.com, Mashable.com and in a KPCC story on developing the next generation of technology professionals in an unlikely setting: South Central L.A.

The stories explored the phenomenon of technology deserts that exist in poor, urban areas and events such as Code Day LA and other hackathon events that highlight participant’s technological skills.

Menjivar is the founder of the nonprofit URBAN Teens eXploring Technology, or URBAN TxT. The organization encourages male inner-city teenagers, particularly those from South Central L.A. and Watts, to become catalysts of change as technology leaders.
