CABE Pepperdine Announces 2026–2027 Leadership Team

CABE Pepperdine has announced its 2026–2027 leadership team, bringing together graduate students and faculty committed to advancing multilingualism, multiculturalism, and educational equity at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

The chapter’s officers are:

• President JinHee (Genie) Lee, an EdD candidate in Learning Technology
• Vice President Brenda García Castro, a PhD candidate in Global Leadership and Change
• Secretary and Treasurer Wanqiong Li, an EdD candidate in Organizational Leadership
• Membership Chair Lizeth Sandoval, a PhD student in Global Leadership and Change
• Faculty Liaison Kevin Wong, PhD, associate professor of education and chair of the MA in TESOL and MA in Teaching online and hybrid programs

The new leadership team will focus on raising awareness of bilingual education advocacy among GSEP graduate students, expanding chapter membership, and strengthening connections among students, alumni, educators, and community members.

“CABE Pepperdine gives GSEP graduate students a unique space to connect their academic endeavors and multilingual identities with the communities we serve,” Lee said. “Our strength at CABE is our shared multicultural approach to language education.”

During the 2026–2027 academic year, CABE Pepperdine plans to offer professional development webinars, including a session designed to help students develop proposals for the annual statewide CABE conference. Chapter representatives will also participate in new student orientation, introducing incoming graduate students to the organization and its mission.

The leadership team is also planning a CABE Pepperdine mini-conference at GSEP’s West Los Angeles campus in spring 2027. The event is expected to bring together graduate students, alumni, and educators to exchange ideas and explore issues related to multilingual education. Additional information will be shared following final approval of the conference.

CABE Pepperdine is Chapter 3 of Region 3 of the California Association for Bilingual Education. Based at GSEP, the chapter welcomes students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members interested in multilingualism, multiculturalism, and educational equity throughout Los Angeles County and beyond.

The statewide California Association for Bilingual Education was established in 1976 to promote bilingual education and high-quality educational opportunities for all students. Its work advances biliteracy, multicultural competency, educational equity, and achievement among students from diverse cultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds.

Through events, professional development, advocacy, and leadership opportunities, CABE Pepperdine supports the missions of both GSEP and the statewide organization while helping graduate students connect scholarship with service to multilingual communities.
