Pepperdine GSEP Faculty Member Beverly Wertheimer Receives National Teaching Award

Beverly Wertheimer, adjunct faculty member at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP), has been named the 2026 recipient of the Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award by the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP).

The award recognizes outstanding adjunct faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to student learning, and the ability to advance the field of psychology. STP, a division of the American Psychological Association, is dedicated to promoting effective teaching and professional development within the discipline.

Wertheimer was selected based on criteria including effective teaching, the ability to stimulate student interest, and a demonstrated commitment to student learning and intellectual growth. Her approach emphasizes both academic rigor and meaningful student engagement.

“I share this distinguished award with anyone who has ever been my student,” said Wertheimer. “My students’ positive class experiences and favorable course evaluations demonstrated our shared values to the committee—values dedicated not only to academic excellence but also to personal and professional growth.”

As part of her teaching philosophy, Wertheimer challenges students to meet high expectations while providing consistent guidance, encouragement, and respect for their individual journeys.

Wertheimer has been an adjunct professor at Pepperdine GSEP for more than four years, teaching in both on-ground and online programs. Her courses include Behavior Principles and Theories of Learning and Individual, Couple, and Family Development, where she helps students explore behavioral frameworks and human development across the lifespan.

“It’s an incredible privilege to teach at Pepperdine and to receive this prestigious award for work that I so deeply cherish,” she added. “My students’ dedication and kindness make teaching an absolute joy every single day.”

Her recognition reflects Pepperdine GSEP’s commitment to student-centered learning and to preparing future psychology professionals with both strong academic foundations and a clear sense of purpose.
