UNCF Honors GSEP Dean Helen Easterling Williams at Annual Los Angeles Mayors Masked Ball


Los Angeles  March 11, 2016 – Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology’s (GSEP) Dean Helen Easterling Williams, EdD, will be honored by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF)’s Los Angeles Area Office during their fifth annual UNCF Mayor's Masked Ball on Friday, March 11 at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live.

Sponsored by a diverse group of corporate sponsors and local businesses including GSEP, the event brings together celebrities, dignitaries, civic leaders, volunteers, public officials and others who support UNCF’s mission of investing in America’s future by providing funding students throughout their college career. Dean Williams will be joined by event hosts Los Angeles Mayo Eric Garcetti, UNCF President and CEO Michael L. Lomax, PhD, Regional Development Director Dana Goland, and Area Development Director Jennifer Childress.

“Our future lies in ensuring our youth are able to obtain the opportunity to not only attend college, but to flourish and sustain themselves and their passions even after they graduate,” stated Dean Williams. “With the costs of obtaining a higher education being so high, its has become our duty to help build opportunities through organizations such as the UNCF to ensure these opportunities are available to diverse communities, and I am honored to to be recognized amongst such esteemed individuals both for myself and on behalf of Pepperdine University.”

Dean Williams will be honored at the event alongside retired MUFG Union Bank Foundation President and CEO, Carl Ballton.

Created in 1983 by Billye Aaron (wife of baseball legend Hank Aaron) and Andrew Young, the Mayor’s Masked Ball exists to involve celebrities, dignitaries, civic leaders, volunteers, public officials and other supporters in the annual local unrestricted fundraising activities of UNCF. As the UNCF offices have expanded across the nation, the Mayor’s Masked Ball has been adapted by various area offices to aid in raising scholarship funds.
