
Shelly Prillerman Harrell, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Harrell is a licensed psychologist with areas of specialization in multicultural, community, and decolonial-liberation psychologies. Her research interests include cultural dimensions of well-being, racism-related stress and trauma, culturally-grounded psychological interventions, mindfulness and contemplative practices, humanistic-existential-experiential and integrative approaches to psychotherapy, and African American mental health. Her current scholarship focuses on the development of interventions with diverse populations in community and clinical settings. Dr. Harrell has published in the areas of racism and mental health, race and clinical supervision, sociocultural issues in psychotherapy, decolonial-liberation praxis, African and diasporic wisdom, psychospiritual principles for working with African American women, and therapeutic journaling. She is a frequent speaker, trainer, and consultant to healthcare, educational, and community organizations.
Dr. Harrell works primarily with the PsyD program where she chairs dissertations, does clinical supervision, and teaches in the areas of psychotherapy skills and sociocultural issues. Dr. Harrell maintains a small psychotherapy and consultation practice with a focus on couples and working with clients from culturally diverse racial-ethnic groups.
