Pepperdine Mourns the Loss of GSEP Student Gabriella Reid

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of GSEP student Gabriella Reid. The University was notified that Gabriella passed away on August 20.

A Bay Area native, Gabriella started at GSEP in the Winter of 2022 and was pursuing a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy and was expected to graduate in the Spring of 2025. Gabriella majored in illustration as an undergraduate and always wanted to support others in their healing journey. She aspired to be a clinical therapist and incorporate art as a tool to foster healing for others. This desire was motivated by Gabriella’s personal understanding of how art helped her to heal.

Remembering Gabriella and her time at Pepperdine, Katrina Ramos, Adjunct Psychology Professor shared, “Gabriella was a promising young therapist, already recognized as a leader in her field, who consistently led insightful discussions in class and provided invaluable feedback to her peers. Her passion and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of learning from her.”

The University will host an online memorial service honoring Gabriella’s life on Tuesday, October 1, beginning at 9:00 AM PT via Zoom. The service will be a time of prayer, remembrance, and celebration of Gabriella and the impact she made in the Pepperdine community and on all of her friends and family who loved her. Attendees will be required to use their Pepperdine Zoom account to access the service.

For those unable to attend the service but who still wish to send condolences to Gabriella’s family, please send cards, notes, or letters to: Vice President for Student Affairs, TCC 210, Mail Code 4472. The Student Affairs office will forward all correspondence to Gabriella’s family.

We encourage students who feel they may need support to contact the Counseling Center (310.506.4210), where counselors are available to talk 24/7 for any emotional assistance. Out-of-state students can access ongoing counseling using the TimelyCare app. Student pastoral care is also available from the team at the Hub for Spiritual Life. Contact Tim Spivey, vice president of Spiritual Life, to make an appointment. For additional support or to locate a mental health professional in your community, contact the Student Care Team.

We offer our deepest condolences to Gabriella’s family, friends, and loved ones and keep them in our hearts during this time of grief. Please join me in lifting up Gabriella’s family in prayer and remembering Gabriella as a beloved member of our Pepperdine community.
