In a promising development for mental health support in high-need areas, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LAC DMH) has unveiled the recipients of its 2023-2024 Stipend Program. The initiative aims to bolster the public mental health workforce by awarding educational stipends, totaling $18,500 each, to qualified students specializing in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy (MACLP), Psychology (PhD/PsyD), and Psychiatric Nursing.

Excitement abounds at Pepperdine University, where an impressive 24 candidates have been selected for the prestigious $18,500 stipend. This includes three alternates, showcasing the exceptional talent and commitment of Pepperdine's students. Notably, two recipients hail from the PsyD program, while 25 are from the MACLP programs.

The cumulative impact on Pepperdine graduates is substantial, with an astounding $444,000 being awarded to the successful candidates.

Expressing gratitude for the support and collaboration that made this achievement possible, Pepperdine recognizes the significance of this program in advancing mental health services in Los Angeles County. A total of 148 stipends will be awarded this fiscal year, with 67 dedicated to MFT applicants, along with 13 MFT alternates.

This commendable achievement reflects the commitment of both the LAC DMH and Pepperdine University to nurturing a robust and compassionate mental health workforce for the benefit of the community.
