Regalia

Renting or Purchasing

Graduates are responsible for renting or purchasing a cap, gown, and hood, collectively referred to as regalia, from Herff Jones, the preferred vendor of Pepperdine custom regalia. All regalia orders will be shipped directly to the graduate.  

Deadlines

The Herff Jones web portal will open on January 25, 2024.

• Psychology  - Grads must place rental orders by March 17, 2024 (regular shipping charge) and March 31, 2024 (2nd-day air charge), in advance of the April 20, 2024 ceremony. 
• Education  - Grads must place rental orders by April 16, 2024 (regular shipping charge) and April 30, 2024 (2nd-day air charge), in advance of the May 18, 2024 ceremony. 

Please note, orders placed after the website close dates are charged at a premium. 

Master’s Regalia Rental

Master’s rental gowns include a mortarboard cap and tassel. While the gown and hood must be returned, graduates may keep the cap and tassel as a souvenir. Rental regalia is approximately $63.00 plus tax and shipping. 

Doctoral Regalia Rental 

Doctoral rental gowns include a mortarboard cap and tassel. Doctoral graduates may choose to purchase an 8-sided blue velvet tam from Herff Jones or another vendor. Please keep in mind the gowns are royal blue, so the tam should also be royal blue also. Rental regalia is approximately $67.00 plus tax and shipping.

Purchasing Master’s and Doctoral Regalia

Academic regalia will take approximately 6 weeks to manufacture. If you need apparel sooner than the standard 6 weeks, you may choose expedited manufacturing options for 3 weeks, 4 weeks, and 5 weeks in the ordering process.

Honor Cords

Graduates who achieve an accumulative 3.5 GPA during their graduate school career are eligible to purchase a GSEP honor cord to wear during the commencement ceremony. The honor cord may be worn alone or with an achievement stole. GSEP honor cords are the same for cum laude, manga cum laude, and summa cum laude. 

Honor cords are $20.00, while supplies last. Sales for Education graduates close on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Graduates who purchase an honor cord will receive them on commencement day, at student check-in. 

For 2024, an early- bird discount can be applied at check-out by using GSEP24EDU for education grads and GSEP24PSYCH for psychology grads.

College honors are not printed in the commencement program nor read individually during the commencement ceremony.

Achievement Stole

Achievement stoles or sashes are worn draped over the shoulders at a commencement ceremony to denote which Pepperdine school your degree is from. Stoles can be purchased from the “student rental gown” section of the Herff Jones website. 

Military Cords

Pepperdine will honor military-connected graduates who are 1) military veterans, 2) currently serving (active duty, National Guard, or Reservists), or 3) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets who are beginning their military service upon graduation.  Each eligible graduate will receive a commemorative red, white, and blue cord to be worn at their commencement ceremony. Eligibility is collected via the GSEP RSVP form, and cords will be disseminated on commencement day at student check-in.
