Professor

Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara; B.A., University of California, Los Angeles

Dr. Reyna Garcia-Ramos teaches in the master of arts in education program at GSEP and leads the university chapter of the California Association of Bilingual Education (CABE). Her focus is on addressing the widening academic gap of English learners in California's public school system, in part by establishing university-school partnerships that allow future teachers extensive learning experiences with the English learner youth in our communities.

She was a community educator and organizer for a community-based-organization. In this role she helped design culturally relevant curricula for Spanish-speaking immigrants in the Inland Valley Empire and supervised instructors to deliver ESL, literacy, and civics instruction as required through the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Garcia-Ramos was the director of legislative affairs for CABE from 2006 to 2008 and is currently the secretary of the Bilingual Education Research Committee of the American Educational Research Association.
