Financial aid may take several weeks to process; therefore, students should apply for financial aid as soon as possible after they apply for admission to Pepperdine's Graduate School of Education and Psychology (however, only admitted students will be awarded aid). Students must reapply for financial aid each academic year.
To be eligible for financial aid an applicant must:
- be a US citizen or Resident Alien
- not be in student loan default
- be enrolled at least half-time to borrow federal loans
- be enrolled full-time to receive Pepperdine grants and scholarships
Priority Application Deadlines:
If you are starting classes in:
- Summer 2008, apply by February 15, 2008 (2007-08 FAFSA)
- Fall 2008, apply by April 15, 2008 (2008-09 FAFSA)
- Spring 2009, apply by November 15, 2008
- Summer 2009, apply by February 15, 2009
Step 1:
Complete the Online FAFSA form
Approximately four weeks after submission of the FAFSA you will receive your Student Aid Report via email. Pepperdine will receive your information electronically. Our office will then notify you of your maximum eligibility for federal Stafford Loans with an "Award Notification letter." Pepperdine's school code for the FAFSA is 001264.
Step 2:
Complete Online Loan Counseling
If this is your first loan at Pepperdine GSEP, you are required to complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling before the Financial Aid Office can process your loan(s). The purpose of Loan Counseling is to inform you of your rights and responsibilities in borrowing a student loan. This is a federal requirement.
Before you graduate (or if/when you drop below half-time enrollment status) you will be required to complete Student Loan Exit Counseling. If you cannot complete Loan Counseling online, you may request a paper form by calling (310) 568-5775
New students for Summer 2008: please proceed with Step 3 below.
Step 3:
Complete the Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note
After you receive your Award Notification Letter from the GSEP Financial Aid Office, you are ready to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) loan application. The MPN must be completed as your promise to repay the loan(s). After you complete the MPN, the Financial Aid Office will process your loans and funds will be credited to your student account at the start of each term. Any funds in excess of tuition and fees charges will be refunded to you after the Add/Drop period. Click here to apply for a Federal Student Loan.
If you would prefer to complete paper forms, please contact the GSEP Financial Aid Office at 310-568-5775.
CHOOSING A LENDER FOR YOUR STAFFORD LOANS:
When you complete the MPN (Step 3 above) you will be asked to select a lender. The lender is the bank or credit union that will process your student loan funds. The GSEP Lender List below is intended as a resource only and it is not a complete listing of student loan lenders. Students may select any lender (bank or credit union) that processes student loans. All lenders offer the same interest rates for Federal Stafford Loans. The lenders on the list demonstrate a consistent level of service in the following areas:
- Products - Education loan resources for students that are fair, competitive, accessible, and tailored to the educational needs of borrowers.
- Pricing – Interest rates, origination, guarantee, and processing fees, if any. Borrower benefits during the in-school and repayment periods.
- Processing – Timely and efficient processing of loans, including convenience in the application process for borrowers, and for the institution. Customer service provided during the loan application and disbursement process.
- Customer service – Service provided to student borrowers and the University, from initial application process throughout the lifetime of the loan, including the repayment period. Such services include dedicated customer service phone numbers for students, web-based services, and debt management programs.
No one single factor is determinative. Each lender’s performance is reviewed and evaluated on an ongoing basis, and no less than annually, by the GSEP Financial Aid Office. The evaluation includes student feedback. We encourage students to provide their feedback via email at gsepfaid@pepperdine.edu.
