Dr. J.L. Fortson teaches in the master of arts in education program at GSEP. Formerly the director of student teaching, she was recently named the director of the newly-established Pat Lucas Center for Teacher Preparation.

Fortson, who taught in Miami before coming to the West Coast, has had extensive experience working with students at the K-12 level, as well as the master's and doctoral levels. As an educational leader she specializes in the creation of innovative educational programs to meet the needs of all students and their institutions. Fortson remains an active member of the Committee on Accreditation's Board of Institutional Reviewers for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and is recognized at the state and national levels as an expert in the field of professional educator preparation.
