As a past president of the California Psychological Association (CPA), the second-largest psychological association in the nation after the American Psychological Association, Dr. Miguel Gallardo advocates for psychologists' rights in Sacramento. Of his legislative involvement he said, "It is an honor to protect and enhance the practice of psychology in California."
Gallardo, a former president of the California Latino Psychological Association, is also "interested in furthering the progress of the Latino community." That passion is a driving force behind his initiative to boost the multicultural psychology perspectives of the CPA and enhance the association's response to the diverse populations in California and the psychologists who share those cultural backgrounds. Gallardo, an associate professor of psychology, stated, "I believe that we are doing our job at GSEP when our students can think critically about the world around them and are prepared to address a multicultural society's needs in culturally consistent ways."
Dr. Rhonda Brinkley-Kennedy (GSEP '96) is the director of the GSEP Urban Initiative, an umbrella program preparing education and mental health professionals to work effectively in underserved urban communities.
