Scott Mortensen, an alumnus of the master of arts program in learning technologies (MALT), has created a fundraising project for the community of Pandytown, Honduras as part of his MALT action research project. His humanitarian efforts organized a community of humanitarians, entrepreneurs, and media specialists to assist in various endeavors for the people of Pandytown to establish economic prosperity. This initiative included educating their children and supplying clean drinking water, adequate housing, and electricity they could all afford; while embracing God into their everyday lives.
“The goal of my action research is to integrate collaborative learning technologies for humanitarian causes.” Morternsen explained. “I want to globally accelerate the rate of change for humanitarian issues such as oppression of women, education of children, and environmental protection, and increase my ability to assist as a filmmaker by utilizing learning technologies in my community of practice.”
Mortensen’s fundraiser, a Thanksgiving drawing for the Pandytown Pendant, raised over $7,000 for the people of Pandytown. Mortensen thanked his supporters: “In a homegrown, blue-collar effort we raised over $7,000 for the Pandytown community and the support is still rolling in. Special thanks to Dr. Margaret Riel and Pepperdine Cadre 12 for helping me steer the course on this exciting, social venture. When it comes to thinking different and working hard to change the world we live in, this was just the beginning.”
Many programs offer rolling admission, and students can enter in the fall, spring, and summer sessions.
