Renowned Systems Thinking Consultant Lectures on Crisis Management

On January 13 at the West Los Angeles Campus, the doctoral program in organizational leadership (EDOL) at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology held an insightful seminar on the importance of crisis management in organizational settings. “Systems Thing and Crisis Management” was hosted by guest speaker and renowned crisis management consultant, Dr. Ian Mitroff.

Mitroff, president and founder of Mitroff Crisis Management located in Oakland, California, discussed best practices for strategic management of crises and crisis prevention, and the importance of designing ethical work environments to promote synergy and spirituality in the work place. Nearly 100 first, second, and third year EDOL students, as well as faculty, alumni, and administrative staff were able to benefit from Mitroff’s presentation on predicting, effectively coping with, and recovering from a crisis.

Mitroff is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Academy of Management, and a professor emeritus from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business. He has also contributed to his specialized field by publishing over 350 articles and 27 books, including Dirty Rotten Strategies: How We Trick Ourselves and Others into Solving the Wrong Problems Precisely, Why Some Companies Emerge Stronger and Better from a Crisis, and A Spiritual Audit of Corporate America.


Dr. Rhonda Brinkley-Kennedy (GSEP '96) is the director of the GSEP Urban Initiative, an umbrella program preparing education and mental health professionals to work effectively in underserved urban communities.
