GSEP Student Hosts Conference for Women of Color

NicoleNicole Simmons-Johnson, Owner of The ABC Coach, and Alumna of Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) is hosting the ‘Sit Down and Let Me Tell You Something’ conference series for women of color. The purpose of the conference series is to create a shared space where women of color can gather, grow, and connect.

The conference will focus on Health and Well-Being, Leadership, and Personal Development. 'Sit Down and Let Me Tell You Something' is sponsored by Inglewood Public Library, at the newly remodeled Gladys Waddingham Lecture Hall, located at 101 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90301. The conference will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 10-2 p.m. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.

The Honorable James T. Butts Jr., Mayor City of Inglewood, will open the event and deliver the welcome address. Conference attendees will be greeted by Afro-Latin music provided by Dan Stewart. The speaker panel will consist of Celia Simmons, Sales and Retail Consultant, Jean Davis, Ph.D., Joyce Kelley, Entrepreneur and Owner of, Frilly Fru Fru Delights for the Divas, and Nicole Simmons-Johnson, Ed.D. Topics to be discussed include Making Life’s Transitions: Transitioning from Corporate Life to Entrepreneurship, Giving and Getting in the Workplace, Allied Health, and Balancing our emotional bank account.

In addition, Pinkberry store #34 will donate a light healthy treat for conference attendees. Other sponsors include Diva Décor, located at the Howard Hughes Promenade, Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, Starbucks Hollywood Park and Starbucks of Inglewood.

Johnson states, “GSEP provided me with the training and invaluable tools to better serve. I was given a vision and I acted upon it. I shared my vision with supportive raving fans, built a team, and started garnering support from outside entities.”

The half-day conference will prove to be one of a kind filled with music, rich dialogue, and real women sharing real stories that other women can relate to!
