Application Procedures and Forms

After you complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, log into Wavenet to view the status of your financial aid application, your financial aid eligibility, and complete the student loan application process.  For detailed instructions, click here.

There are a variety of financial aid resources available to GSEP students to assist with tuition costs and living expenses, including:

  • Pepperdine Colleagues Grants
  • Pepperdine GSEP scholarships
  • Cal Grants (for eligible students in the Teaching Credential program)
  • Federal Stafford Loans
  • Federal GradPLUS Loans
  • Private educational loans

In addition, GSEP graduates who earn a Teaching Credential and teach for a specified number of years in designated low income, low performing and/or qualifying subject areas may be eligible for loan forgiveness (a portion of federal loans would be forgiven and would not have to be repaid).  Please refer to the Loan Forgiveness link on the menu at the left.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Financial aid may take several weeks to process; therefore, students should apply for financial aid as soon as possible after they apply for admission to Pepperdine's Graduate School of Education and Psychology (however, only admitted students will be awarded aid). Students must reapply for financial aid each academic year.

To be eligible for financial aid an applicant must:

  • be a US citizen or Resident Alien
  • not be in student loan default
  • be enrolled at least half-time to borrow federal loans
  • be enrolled full-time to receive Pepperdine grants and scholarships

Priority Application Deadlines:

The following are priority deadlines only, established to allow plenty of time to process your financial aid in time for the start of school. You may apply for aid after the dates below; however, we recommend that you apply for financial aid at least 6 weeks before the start of school.

If you are starting classes in:

  • Fall 2009, apply by April 15,2009
  • Spring 2010, apply by October 15, 2009
  • Summer 2010, apply by February 15, 2010

Step 1:
Complete the Online FAFSA form
Approximately four weeks after submission of the FAFSA you will receive your Student Aid Report via email. Please review your Student Aid Report carefully.  Pepperdine will receive your Student Aid Report electronically.

In some cases, we may require additional information for your financial aid application.  If so, the GSEP Financial Aid Office will notify you via email.  You may also check your "To Do" list in your Student Center to find out if additional information is required. (To access your Student Center, log in to Wavenet at https://wavenet.pepperdine.edu and click on the "Student Services" tab in the upper right of the Wavenet homepage).

Step 2:
Complete Online Loan Counseling
If this is your first loan at Pepperdine GSEP, you are required to complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling Link to external site before the Financial Aid Office can process your loan(s). The purpose of Loan Counseling is to inform you of your rights and responsibilities in borrowing a student loan. This is a federal requirement.

Before you graduate (or if/when you drop below half-time enrollment status) you will be required to complete Student Loan Exit Counseling. If you cannot complete Loan Counseling online, you may request a paper form by calling (310) 568-5775

Step 3:
View and Accept Your Financial Aid Awards in Wavenet (http://wavenet.pepperdine.edu)
You will receive an email notification to your Pepperdine email address when you have been awarded financial aid, along with instructions to log into the University portal, Wavenet, to complete the following:

  • Accept or decline your financial aid awards
  • Select a lender to process your Federal Stafford Loans
  • Read and accept the Financial Aid Terms and Conditions

Step 4 (for first-time student loan borrowers at GSEP):

If this is the first time that you are borrowing a federal Stafford Loan or a Graduate PLUS Loan at GSEP, the lender will contact you via email or mail to ask you to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN), which is the loan application.  You must complete an MPN for your loan(s) to be processed.

For complete instructions for Financial Aid in Wavenet, click here

If you would like to borrow a Federal Graduate PLUS Loan or private educational loan, please  contact the GSEP Financial AId Office at or 310-568-5775 to confirm the amount you can borrow and then we will process your Graduate PLUS or private educational loan.  The Graduate PLUS Loan and private educational loans require credit approval from the lender and they are generally available to students who do not have adverse credit.

CHOOSING A LENDER FOR YOUR STAFFORD LOANS:

When you accept your financial aid awards (Step 3 above) you will be asked to select a lender for your student loans.  The lender is the bank or credit union that will process your student loan funds.  Students may select any lender (bank or credit union) that processes student loans.  All lenders offer the same interest rates for Federal Stafford Loans.

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID CODE OF CONDUCT

Pepperdine University is a Christian University committed to the highest standards of

As financial aid professionals, we abide by the following guiding principles of the profession:

In accordance with our commitment to avoid conflicts of interest and adhere to ethical standards, we abide by the following:
1. We do not accept anything of more than nominal value from any lending institution including gifts, compensation, equipment services, expense paid trips, reimbursement for expenses, meal tickets or other incentives or inducements. We do not engage in revenue sharing and will report to senior administration any lender who approaches us about revenue sharing, lender stock options, or other benefits that could be perceived as a conflict of interest.
2. We do not receive anything of value for serving on the advisory board of any lending institution.
3. The University's lender lists are based solely on the best interests of the students or parents who may use the list without regard to financial interests of the University. The Financial Aid Office will review and evaluate each lender's performance regularly and no less than annually.
4. We will clearly identify and fully disclose the criteria and process used to select lenders. Students are informed that they have the right and ability to select the lender of their choice regardless of the lender list.
5. No lender may appear on a lender list if the lender has an agreement to sell its loans to another lender without disclosing this fact. In addition, no lender may negotiate to be a lender with respect to a certain type of loan by providing benefits to a College as to another type of loan.
6. We do not allow any employees of a lender to provide staffing assistance in our financial aid offices.
