Edward Shafranske, Ph.D., ABPP
Carol Falender, Ph.D.

This workshop is designed to provide participants with knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to supervision practice, including best practices and evidence-supported techniques of clinical supervision. Content includes review of targeted areas to focus on enhanced efficacy, technique, and practice with lecture, discussion, videos and experiential exercises.

Dr. Shafranske, Director of the PsyD Program at Pepperdine University, Dr. Falender has taught at Pepperdine for over a decade is both are nationally recognized authors and speakers on the topic of Supervision.

Dr. Falender is co-author with Dr. Edward Shafranske of Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach, published by the American Psychological Association and of a forthcoming Casebook on Supervision. Currently, she lectures on supervision, ethics of supervision, treatment of children, adolescents, and families, and treatment of youth with co-occurring diagnoses. She is President-Elect of Division 37, Child, Youth, and Family Services of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. LaTonya Wood, Director of Clinical Training at Pepperdine University and co-Chair of the Southern California Association Psychology Training Programs (SCAPTP) mentoring both students and supervisors on supervision issues.

Schedule of Workshops

GSEP offers a variety of programs throughout the year, all of which are available to the greater community for continuing education credits. Pepperdine students and alumni will receive discounted fees. All workshops will take place at the West Los Angeles campus located at: 6100 Center Drive; Los Angeles, CA 90045, unless otherwise noted. Awarding Continuing Education Credit

In order to receive continuing education credit, it is mandatory that all participants arrive on time, stay the full time of workshop, and hand in completed evaluation form. You will then receive your certificate at the workshop.

Anyone arriving after the scheduled start time will not be admitted.

MFT', LPCC and/or LCSW

Continuing Education Workshops meet the qualifications as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. While Pepperdine University ensures that courses meet BOP and BBS requirements for content (unless otherwise indicated), participants are responsible for consulting with licensing boards to ensure applicability to their licensing needs. Completion certificates are given to registered attendees at the end of the workshop.

Parking

West LA Campus Parking Information: If you park in the 6100 lot we will validate your parking. Your cost will be $5.00.

Irvine Campus Parking Information: Parking at the Irvine Pepperdine Graduate Campus is provided in the adjacent parking structure to the 18111 (10 Story Building) Von Karman Ave. that is located in the Lakeshore Towers Complex. Please bring your parking ticket in for validation; otherwise you will need to pay for parking. Valet parking is available at your own cost. 

Encino Campus Parking Information: The Pepperdine Encino Campus is on the southeast corner of Ventura Blvd. and Balboa Blvd.  Entrance to the parking structure is on either Ventura or Balboa.  Once you enter the parking structure, there will be a gate, so you will need to take a ticket at the gate, and bring that ticket with you so we can validate.  Parking is free on Saturdays.  Park in any spot that does not have a name. Walk from the parking structure to the brick business building (pass the fountain) and take the elevator to the second floor.

  1. "Supervision of supervision" training during internship
  2. Formal coursework in supervision of psychology trainees taken from an accredited educational institution
  3. Workshops in supervision of psychology trainees
  4. Supervision training received as part of grand rounds
  5. Other experiences which provide direction and education in the principles of supervision of psychology trainees.
  6. Please check with the Board of Psychology for current up-dated information.


* Note 2: For Psychologists, taking a Law and Ethics CE course each renewal cycle is one of several options for how to fulfill this requirement. The requirement may be met each renewal cycle by any of these means:

  1. Formal coursework in laws and ethics taken from an accredited educational institution;
  2. Approved continuing education course in laws and ethics;
  3. Workshops in laws and ethics;
  4. Other experiences which provide direction and education in laws and ethics including, but not limited to, grand rounds or professional association presentation. Please check with your licensing board for clarification and specific requirements.
